Our background:
Kenya is a country comprising over forty-two different tribes.
These tribes speak different languages, adhere to different cultural
practices, and are found living in different geographical regions
of Kenya. Many of these tribes however, have today welcomed and
embraced western way of living, and have abandoned their cultural
ways.
The Maasai however, are one among the last few surviving indigenous
cultures on the African continent. On the one hand this lack of
change has helped the Western world understand better the historical
background, traditions and cultural practices of Africans, and
yet at the same time the Maasai have lagged behind in development
due to lack of education.
Traditional music:
Maasai folk music plays a vital role in the spiritual and social
life of the Maasai people.
It is through Maasai folk song and dance presentation that The
Friends of Sironka Dance Troupe seeks not only entertain but indeed
educate many on the unique but sadly fading Maasai Culture.
