TESTIMONIALS:
'The workshops provided by Nicholas were excellent in content
and in presentation. All children are engaged in the process
of Batik, but at the same time learning about creativity and
how one can express oneself through another medium of art.
Nicholas teaches historical context of Kenya, his family,
village. The children will learn more than batik. There is
a theme of mutual respect, which is a thread which runs through
all of his presentations.
I would highly recommend Nicholas for a residency in your
schools. FAME was very impressed with his philosophy of art
and life.'
Sincerely,
Dorothy K. Kittaka, President FAME:

'During my visit to Sironka's home and community in February,
I had an opportunity to experience
first-hand his passion and commitment to his community and
tribe, and witness the enormous respect and appreciation everyone
there feels for him. With his energetic leadership, many community
projects are in progress that benefit people in a wide variety
of ways --- e.g. public health clinic, fresh water well, street
lighting, etc.
I was extremely struck by what a natural leader and teacher
he really is. For example, I saw him address an all-girls
secondary school and heard the most eloquent and stirring
speech to young people I've ever heard. His wisdom and genuine
compassion made him able to connect with them on a personal
level and gain their trust in ways that African men are generally
unable to do with a young, all-female audience. Very impressive!!
(As a side note, I had come to that particular school with
Sironka and his wife Seleina because I wanted to gauge the
school's interest in joining a school-to-school partnership
project that some friends and I are creating to connect schools
in East Africa with schools in the USA. After Sironka's talk
--- and my meager explanation in Ki-Swahili --- the students
and staff were ready to sign on! )
I hope you will be able to help again in bringing Sironka
back to our community. To me, he is the kind of gifted and
inspiring person that can open children's minds and hearts
in profound ways.
Thank you so much.'
