My Art and Culture workshops have created greater awareness of the Maasai Culture,
and serve as a platform from which I advocate for the preservation, understanding,
and cohesion of people from all Cultures.
Batik art and Maasai Culture presentations workshops.
•
The Maasai Culture told using overhead transparencies,
DVD, and my verbal articulation of the same, lasts just under an hour. This overview
on Maasai Culture will introduce students, teachers and the public audience to
the origins, mythology and present day Maasai people their beliefs and values.
The presentation will also briefly touch on other tribal Culture of Kenya. This
segment also informs participants of our community projects, and my efforts as
an artist to alleviate poverty, illiteracy and unhealthy living conditions being
experienced by the Maasai community.

The Batik art workshop is a hands-on exercise that gives
participants an opportunity to literally take part in the application of dye and
wax on fabric, learning firsthand the Batik painting process!
Presentation and Workshops for schools, Colleges, University and public:
Time schedule for schools:
- 9.00am – 9.45am:
Morning assembly….Maasai Culture at a glance.
This will include a DVD show, and narration by Sironka.
- 9:50am – 3.15pm.
Batik art workshop.
ELEMENTARY & HIGH SCHOOLS WORKSHOPS:
Schools to provide the following:
- Tables.
- Power extension cord.
- Paper towels.
- Teachers will determine rotation schedule of students to workshop.
- Up to 20 students per class.
- Paint brushes.
- Sironka to provide dye, cloth and wax for Batik painting workshop.
- Well lit, ventilated room
- Water tap and trough.
COLLEGE, UNIVERSITY & PUBLIC VENUE WORKSHOPS:
Venue to provide:
- Tables.
- Power extension cords.
- Paper towels.
- Well lit, ventilated room
- 4 Electric cords and power outlets.
- Tables.
- Water tap and trough.
- Contact person to advertise for full day participation workshop.
- Sironka to provide dye, cloth and wax for Batik painting workshop.
- No more than 20 in class.
- Participants will each work on producing his / her own individual artwork.
- College, University Students, and adult class individuals to each bring
the following:
“PRO ART CHINA” brushes:
- Size 8- TWO pcs.
- 3 inch brush - ONE pc.
- Size 9 - TWO pcs.
- 1 litre plastic containers - SIX pcs.
Presentation and workshops for College, University and the public:
The Maasai Culture presentation will also discuss foreign influences, internal
development and the impact that foreign ideology and modern day development
have had on the lives and Culture of the Maasai people.
Venue to provide:
- Auditorium, microphone and power point or overhead projector.
Topics:
- Kenya - The people / the land, and the early explorers.
- Who are the Maasai of Kenya?
- Myths and religion of the Maasai people.
- Child-bearing, Motherhood and early education of Maasai children.
- Clans, maturity and the age set system Religion and the Maasai.
- Warriors, songs and transition of the Maasai people.
- Body-art , beauty, and being Maasai.
- Marriage and family life, and leadership.
- Architecture and housing.
BEAD ART WORKSHOPS
Seleina “Your Majesty” Sironka
Seleina a very talented singer and dancer, is also a skilled Maasai bead artist in her own right. Seleina holds bead making workshop residencies in schools and Universities in the United States of America.
Seleina says,
“ In my life time, I want to embarked on as many projects as possible at home aimed at nurturing and helping elevate creative talent among Maasai youth, to help them and their families live better lives”.
Seleina loves children, and many times will use the opportunity while teaching the bead work classses, to tell children Maasai folk tales, and teach them how to sing a song or two!
Seleina and I will now happily return to what we did during my entire stay in the United States on a Fulbright from the year 2000 t0 2001 - Hold Batik art, and Bead art workshops!
